What was announced

Total passenger vehicle exports from India stood at 2,22,368 units in CY Q2 2026 (April to June), an 8.86% year-on-year rise over 2,04,265 units in Q2 2025. The top 40 exported models accounted for 2,19,262 units, or 98.6% of the total, growing 11.20% YoY over 1,97,177 units in the year-ago quarter. The concentration at the top of the chart continues to deepen.

India is no longer just a small-car export base; the eVitara's 15,210-unit debut confirms it is now Suzuki's global EV factory.

Maruti Suzuki swept the top three positions. The Fronx held its lead as India's most exported car. The Jimny's 46% jump reflects sustained demand in Latin America, Africa and Japan, where the three-door and five-door are sold as lifestyle 4x4s at a price point no rival matches. The biggest story is the eVitara, Suzuki's first global electric SUV, which is built exclusively at the Gujarat plant and shipped to Europe and Japan. Hyundai's i10, Nissan Magnite, Volkswagen Virtus and Hyundai Verna also feature in the top 40, with Kia Seltos and Mahindra XUV models rounding out the volume shippers.

The Car Jury verdict

The Q2 numbers confirm what has been building for two years: India is no longer just a small-car export base, it is Suzuki's global SUV and EV factory. The eVitara clocking 15,210 export units in its first full quarter is the headline. Rachit Hirani of MotorOctane calls this the phase where Maruti has "launched an EV alongside its ICE lineup," and the export sheet backs him up. The concern remains domestic. Faisal Khan of FasBeam has flagged that even flagship Marutis are getting only camera-based Level 2 ADAS, and Biturbo Media has raised body-strength concerns on smaller Marutis. Indian buyers eyeing the e-Vitara should still WAIT: the export-spec car gets kit and safety tuning Indian variants do not always match. Strong export volume is good for the balance sheet, not automatically good for the domestic showroom.
