Skoda's May 2026 Slide: Kylaq Down 30%, Kushaq Doubles, Portfolio Wobbles
Skoda Auto India closed May 2026 with 5,760 domestic units, a 14.5% drop versus May 2025 and a 16.4% slide over April 2026. The Kylaq compact SUV still drove nearly 60% of volumes despite a steep year-on-year fall, while the older Kushaq more than doubled its numbers on a low base.
What was announced
Skoda Auto India reported 5,760 domestic units in May 2026, down 14.5% from 6,740 units in May 2025 and 16.4% lower than the 6,886 units sold in April 2026. The sub-four-metre Kylaq remained the volume anchor, but every other model in the range continues to operate at sub-segment-leader numbers.
Skoda India is now a one-car brand leaning on Kylaq, and even Kylaq just fell 30% year-on-year.

Kylaq fell 15.8% month-on-month from 4,089 units in April 2026. Kushaq's growth comes off a small May 2025 base as the model nears the end of its current cycle. Skoda has not separately disclosed Slavia, Kodiaq and Superb splits for the month in the data released so far.
The Car Jury verdict
Skoda's India story has become a one-car show, and that one car is now cooling. The Kylaq doing 3,443 units while carrying 60% of the brand is not strength, it is concentration risk. Kushaq doubling YoY sounds dramatic, but the base was tiny, and Gagan Choudhary of Gagan Choudhary has already flagged how Skoda's variant strategy on newer cars cuts features lower-variant Kushaq buyers used to expect. The Kushaq and Slavia remain TCJ BUYs on product merit, and Faisal Khan of FasBeam is right that Slavia's pricing is sharp. The problem is showroom footfall, service trust and a sedan segment that keeps shrinking. Until Skoda refreshes the Kushaq-Slavia twins and stops leaning on Kylaq for survival, expect more months like this. The product is fine. The portfolio plan is not.
