Citroen piles Rs 1.4 lakh on Aircross and Basalt: discounts won't fix the problem

Citroen India has rolled out fresh June 2026 offers across most of its lineup, with benefits of up to Rs 1.4 lakh on the Aircross SUV and Basalt coupe-SUV, plus smaller savings on the C3. The promotion runs until June 30, 2026, with exact figures varying by city, variant and stock.
What was announced
Citroen India is running benefits across the Aircross SUV, Basalt coupe-SUV and C3 crossover through June 30, 2026. The headline number is up to Rs 1.4 lakh off, though exact savings depend on city, variant and dealer stock. The offers apply to existing model-year inventory.
Citroen is buying footfall with a Rs 1.4 lakh cheque because the showrooms are quiet, not because the cars suddenly became better value.
The Basalt, currently the most affordable mass-market coupe-SUV in India at Rs 8.55 lakh to Rs 13.75 lakh ex-showroom, is the biggest beneficiary. It uses either an 82hp, 115Nm 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol paired with a 5-speed manual, or a 110hp, 190Nm 1.2-litre turbo-petrol with a 6-speed manual. The turbo also comes with a 6-speed automatic, which bumps torque to 205Nm. It takes on the Tata Curvv, MG Astor, Volkswagen Taigun, Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, Renault Duster and Honda Elevate.
| Model | Max benefit | Body style |
|---|---|---|
| Aircross | Up to Rs 1.4 lakh | SUV |
| Basalt | Up to Rs 1.4 lakh | Coupe-SUV |
| C3 | On offer (varies) | Crossover hatch |
Benefits vary by city, variant and stock. Valid until June 30, 2026.
The Car Jury verdict
A Rs 1.4 lakh cut on cars that already undercut the Tata Curvv and MG Astor on sticker price tells you everything about Citroen's India problem: the showrooms are quiet, and the brand is buying footfall. The Basalt and Aircross are honest products with proper ride quality, but the dealer network, resale and feature sheet are nowhere near a Tata Sierra or a MG Windsor EV. Motor Inc has pointed out that the Aircross X and Basalt X are "virtually the same in terms of the specs, the features list, and the price tags," which sums up Citroen's confused positioning. Take the discount if you genuinely want a French ride and can stomach the resale hit. Everyone else is better served by a Curvv or by waiting for the Sierra.
