What was announced

Hyundai Motor India reported 47,837 domestic units in May 2026 versus 43,861 in May 2025, a 9.07% YoY rise of 3,976 units. Month-on-month, however, volumes fell 7.83% from 51,902 units in April 2026. The growth was led by the Venue, Exter and i20, with the Creta range continuing as the volume anchor.

The Venue is doing the heavy lifting Hyundai's planners hoped the Exter would, and the Creta's slowing growth is a warning the brand cannot ignore.

Exter, Aura, i20, i10 (Grand i10 Nios), Alcazar and Verna numbers were not individually disclosed in the source data available at publication. The Creta range alone accounted for nearly 32% of Hyundai's total domestic dispatches in May 2026, underlining the brand's continued reliance on its midsize SUV franchise even as the Venue's compact-SUV momentum builds.

The Car Jury verdict

The Venue's 56% YoY surge is the real headline here, not the Creta's modest 2.5% growth. The Creta is now a mature product holding its ceiling; the Venue is the one taking fresh ground from rivals like the Nexon and Brezza. Our Venue review already rated it a BUY, and these numbers validate that call. The Creta and Creta Electric together still anchor a third of Hyundai's volume, which is the kind of single-model dependency that should worry the planners in Gurugram.

Faisal Khan of FasBeam put it bluntly, noting that Honda and Hyundai entered India around the same time but the gap between them today is enormous, and that Hyundai's fan base could shift at any moment. He is right to flag the complacency risk. The April-to-May 8% drop says the cushion is thinner than the YoY number suggests.
