Mercedes Recalls G 580 Electric in India Over Loose Wheel Bolt Risk

Mercedes-Benz India has issued a voluntary recall for 99 units of the G-Class Electric, the G 580, over wheel bolts that may not meet specification and could loosen over the vehicle's life. The affected SUVs were built between July 12, 2024 and August 18, 2025, and the recall was logged on the SIAM portal.
What was announced
Mercedes-Benz India has filed a voluntary recall covering 99 units of the G-Class Electric, sold here as the G 580 with EQ Technology. The notice, published on the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) recall portal on May 31, 2026, covers units manufactured between July 12, 2024 and August 18, 2025.
Ninety-nine cars sounds small until you remember each one is a three-tonne, three-crore SUV with a wheel that could work loose.
According to the SIAM filing, the wheel bolts on the affected G 580s might not meet specification. As a result, the bolts, and subsequently the wheel connection itself, could loosen over the vehicle's lifetime while driving. Mercedes states this may impair driving stability and increase the possibility of a crash, which is why the action has been classified as a safety recall rather than a service campaign.
The remedy follows the standard playbook for a Mercedes India recall. Authorised dealerships will contact registered owners of the affected G 580 units directly and carry out the inspection and rectification at no cost. Owners who suspect their car falls within the build window can also approach any official Mercedes-Benz dealership for a VIN check and the necessary work.
This is Mercedes-Benz India's second recall of 2026. The first, announced in February, covered C63 S AMG and CLE units over a potential defect in the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) module. The G 580 went on sale in India in 2025 as the electric counterpart to the petrol G 63 and G 450 d, and is brought in as a fully imported (CBU) model.
The Car Jury verdict
Ninety-nine cars is a small recall in absolute terms, but on a vehicle that lists north of three crore rupees and weighs more than three tonnes, a wheel that can work loose is not a footnote. Mercedes has done the right thing by going to SIAM voluntarily and tasking dealers with reaching out, and G 580 owners should not wait for a call: book the inspection now.
This is also Mercedes' second India recall in 2026 after the C63 S AMG and CLE ADAS action in February, and as Biturbo Media of Biturbo Media notes, the German trio of Mercedes, BMW and Audi continue to rule the Indian luxury space. That dominance comes with a higher bar on follow-through. For buyers shopping the wider three-pointed-star range, our GLC and GLA verdicts remain unchanged.
