Skoda and Volkswagen's Indian arms went in opposite directions in June 2026. Skoda posted 24.05% YoY growth on the back of the Kylaq, while Volkswagen slid 20% YoY as Virtus volumes cooled. Combined dispatches touched 8,687 units, up 7.2% over June 2025 and 3.7% over May 2026.

What was announced

Skoda Auto India sold 6,220 units in June 2026, up 24.05% from 5,014 units in June 2025 and 7.99% over May 2026's 5,760 units. Volkswagen India logged a 20% YoY decline. Combined, the two brands sold 8,687 units against 8,103 in June 2025 (up 7.2%) and 8,379 in May 2026 (up 3.7%).

Skoda is riding Kylaq to record months while Volkswagen, down to two nameplates, is running out of runway without fresh product.

The Kylaq compact SUV remained the volume anchor, contributing almost 65% of Skoda's June sales. The Slavia rebounded sharply ahead of its facelift launch. Kushaq volumes were the third pillar of Skoda's month. On the Volkswagen side, the Virtus sedan's drop was the primary drag, with Taigun holding the fort.

The Car Jury verdict

The Kylaq is now doing the heavy lifting the Kushaq was meant to do at launch, and nearly two out of every three Skodas sold in June wore that badge. That is healthy for volume but risky for mix; Skoda needs the Slavia facelift to hold the sedan buyer it already has. Faisal Khan of FasBeam argues "Skoda has nailed it with the pricing of the Slavia," and the 20.87% YoY jump backs him up.

Volkswagen's problem is starker. With only the Taigun and Virtus on sale and the Virtus fading, the brand is one weak month away from irrelevance in the volume charts. Our stance stays unchanged: the Kylaq, Kushaq and Slavia remain BUYs. VW needs new product, fast.
