Toyota Teases 9th-Gen Hilux Ahead Of 28 July India Launch
Toyota has released a fresh teaser for the ninth-generation Hilux ahead of its India launch on 28 July 2026. The clip shows the pickup in a new Sulphur Metallic shade wading through water and tackling rough terrain, previewing styling changes that align the India-spec truck with the global model.

Toyota India has confirmed a 28 July 2026 launch date for the ninth-generation Hilux and released a teaser video showing the pickup in a new Sulphur Metallic exterior finish. In European markets, this colour is reserved for the range-topping 48V mild-hybrid variant of the new Hilux. The teaser focuses on off-road capability, with footage of water wading and rough-terrain driving.
New sheet metal on old mechanicals at a higher price is a hard sell, even with Toyota's service reputation propping it up.
Design changes visible in the teaser bring the India-spec truck in line with the global ninth-gen model. The large Toyota logo on the current grille is replaced by 'TOYOTA' lettering in a metallic finish, set on a blacked-out horizontal band that runs across the nose. The teaser suggests the redesigned front bumper, slimmer LED headlamps and reprofiled bonnet from the global car will carry over to India.
The bigger question is under the bonnet. Globally, the new Hilux is offered with a 48V mild-hybrid diesel and a battery-electric variant. The India-spec model is expected to continue with the existing 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine, likely paired with the six-speed automatic and part-time four-wheel drive from the outgoing car. Toyota has not confirmed powertrain details, variant spread or pricing ahead of the 28 July reveal. The current Hilux is priced in the Rs 30 lakh to Rs 37 lakh ex-showroom band, and the new generation is expected to push that ceiling higher.

The Hilux is a halo product in India, not a volume play, and the ninth-gen refresh does not change that math. If Toyota India sticks with the existing 2.8-litre diesel and skips the 48V mild-hybrid setup offered in Europe, buyers get sharper styling and a new grille treatment on largely familiar mechanicals, at what will almost certainly be a Fortuner-plus price.
For lifestyle buyers who want a genuine ladder-frame pickup with Toyota's service backbone, that is still a defensible package. As Biturbo Media notes, "the biggest reason" many buyers pick Toyota is "the quality of service you get." But if you want a seven-seat family SUV on the same platform, the Fortuner or the Innova HyCross are the smarter buys. Wait for pricing on 28 July before committing.
