Innova Hycross Facelift Spied: Hilux-Style Front Coming to India's Best MPV
Toyota has stepped up on-road testing of the Innova Hycross facelift in India, and a fresh set of spy shots has now given the clearest look yet at the updated front fascia. Under the camouflage, the MPV appears to borrow the new-generation Hilux's SUV-style face, marking the model's biggest visual change since launch.
What was announced
A second test mule of the Innova Hycross facelift has been spotted on Indian roads, and unlike the earlier sighting that showed mostly the rear and side, this prototype has been captured with a clear view of the front. Toyota is clearly deep into road validation, which points to a launch window within the next six to nine months.
Toyota is giving India's best-selling premium MPV an SUV face, not a new heart, and that alone will keep the Hycross on top for another cycle.
The heavy camouflage cannot hide the redesign. The current Hycross wears a fairly conventional MPV nose with a wide chrome-slat grille and slim horizontal headlamps. The facelift moves away from that entirely. The new front fascia appears to follow the design language of the new-generation Toyota Hilux, with a taller, more upright grille section, chunkier bumper cladding and a squared-off SUV-style stance. This is the same visual playbook Toyota has used globally to reposition its ladder-frame and monocoque models under a common family face.
The rest of the vehicle looks largely carried over. The silhouette, glasshouse, door skins and roofline appear unchanged, which is consistent with a mid-cycle facelift rather than a generation change. No mechanical updates have been confirmed. Expect the 2.0-litre petrol and the 2.0 strong-hybrid Atkinson-cycle powertrain to continue, with the hybrid remaining the volume seller in the ZX and ZX(O) trims. Toyota has not yet shared cabin details, but a larger touchscreen, updated ADAS calibration and revised upholstery are the usual mid-life additions and are likely here too. Pricing should move up by roughly 2 to 4 percent over the current INR 19.13 lakh to INR 30.58 lakh ex-showroom band.
The Car Jury verdict
This is a mid-cycle nip and tuck to India's best-selling premium MPV, and Toyota is clearly betting that an SUV face will keep the Hycross fresh against the Carens Clavis and the incoming Kia Seltos-based three-row. The mechanicals, the strong hybrid, the cabin, the seven-seat packaging, none of that is changing. If you can hold six months, wait. Faisal Khan of FasBeam noted on a recent Toyota facelift that "the facelift has been done very well because earlier there was chrome here," and Biturbo Media reminds buyers that "quality of service you get from Toyota" is the real moat here. The new face is worth the wait only if resale matters to you.
