Mini India has confirmed that the 2026 Countryman C will launch on June 17, slotting below the performance-focused Countryman JCW All4. Pre-bookings are already open. The variant will be assembled at the BMW Group's Chennai plant and is expected to use a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol three-cylinder engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

What was announced

Mini India has confirmed June 17 as the launch date for the 2026 Countryman C. The variant will be positioned below the Countryman JCW All4, which currently sits at the top of the lineup with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 300hp and 400Nm. Pre-bookings for the Countryman C are already underway through Mini dealerships.

The Countryman C, not the JCW All4, is the variant that places Mini back in the price band where its badge actually belongs.

The Countryman C will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol direct-injection engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Mini India has not officially disclosed the output figures, but the engine is expected to be the same three-cylinder unit used in the BMW X1, where it produces 136hp and 230Nm of torque. Like the rest of the Countryman range sold in India, the C will be assembled at the BMW Group's Chennai facility, which should help keep its pricing competitive against fully imported rivals.

On the design front, the Countryman C will share most of its styling with the Countryman Electric, with a slightly revised grille and bumper treatment to distinguish the combustion variant. It will get body-coloured door handles and a set of model-specific alloy wheels. Buyers will be able to choose from five exterior colours: Chilli Red, British Racing Green, Nanuq White, Slate Blue and Smokey Green. Interior details and feature specifications will be confirmed at the launch event on June 17.

The Car Jury verdict

The Countryman C is the variant that should have launched first. The JCW All4 made for great press releases but at its price point it competes with cars Indian buyers actually want, like the BMW X3. The C, with its 136hp three-cylinder, will likely undercut even the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3, and that is exactly the price band the Mini badge belongs in.

Gagan Choudhary frames the competitive set correctly: "Like the Audi Q3, BMW X1, or the Mercedes GLA, and so on." That is the fight Mini needs to pick. Faisal Khan of FasBeam notes the Countryman platform was not originally designed with this trim hierarchy in mind, which explains why the cheaper variant arrived second. Better late than never. Wait for the price on June 17 before booking.
