Mercedes-Benz is recalling 310,667 vehicles in the United States after the NHTSA flagged a corroded driver-side door-lock micro-switch that can fail to detect an open door, preventing the auto-park brake from engaging and creating a rollaway risk. The recall spans the CLA, A-Class, C-Class, CLE, GLA, GLB and GLC.

What was announced

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the recall on July 31, 2026, covering 310,667 Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the United States. The defect is a corroded micro-switch inside the driver's door lock that can fail to register when the door is open. Because the auto-park brake relies on that signal to engage automatically when the driver exits, a faulty switch can leave the vehicle without an engaged parking brake, creating a rollaway hazard.

The cars are still a BUY. Mercedes India's silence on whether local VINs share the same door-switch supplier is the actual problem.

The recall list covers a wide slice of Mercedes-Benz's mainstream US range, several of which are also sold in India.

Dealers in the US will replace the driver's door lock free of charge. Mercedes-Benz has not yet issued a statement on whether cars built for other markets, including India, share the same micro-switch component or fall under a separate action.

The Car Jury verdict

This is a US-market action and Mercedes-Benz India has not announced any parallel recall for the GLA, GLB, GLC or C-Class sold here. Owners of Indian-market cars should not panic, but the affected models are the exact ones that dominate the brand's local showroom traffic, and buyers deserve a clear statement from Stuttgart on whether Indian VINs share the same micro-switch supplier.

The cars themselves are not the problem. Our GLC, GLA and GLB reviews all carry a BUY rating, and this recall does not change that. But Mercedes India owes its customers a written confirmation, not silence. Until that lands, existing owners should manually engage the parking brake as habit; new buyers should ask their dealer, in writing, whether their VIN is clear.
