MG Hector Plus Diesel Returns at Rs 20 Lakh: Right Engine, Wrong Gearbox
MG has finally priced the facelifted Hector Plus diesel at Rs 20 lakh ex-showroom, seven months after the petrol variants went on sale in December 2025. The 2.0-litre diesel comes exclusively with a 6-speed manual in a new Sharp Pro (O) trim, seating seven.
What was announced
MG launched the Hector and Hector Plus facelifts in December 2025 but priced only the petrol variants at that time. The diesel Hector Plus has now been priced at Rs 20 lakh ex-showroom, and is offered in a single, newly created Sharp Pro (O) trim that sits one rung below the top-spec Sharp Pro. Layout is seven-seat only.
MG wants Rs 20 lakh for a diesel seven-seater with no automatic and no ADAS, while Tata sells the same engine with a torque converter.
Under the bonnet is the carry-over 2.0-litre diesel producing 170hp and 350Nm, paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual gearbox. MG is not offering an automatic on the diesel, despite the same Fiat-sourced engine being available with a 6-speed torque converter in the Tata Harrier and Safari. Feature highlights include a 7-inch driver's display, a 14-inch infotainment screen, and powered front seats.

The same 2.0-litre diesel is available with an automatic in the Tata Harrier and Safari.
The Car Jury verdict
The engine is fine. The packaging is not. MG is asking Rs 20 lakh for a seven-seat diesel SUV with no automatic option, no Level-2 ADAS, and no powered tailgate, while Tata sells the same 2.0-litre Kryotec unit in the Safari with a 6-speed torque converter. Rachit Hirani of MotorOctane has already flagged that MG's 360-degree cameras trail rivals in India, and here you do not even get a 360 camera on this trim. Arun Panwar has openly questioned MG's reliability standing against the segment benchmarks, and buyers eyeing a diesel three-row will hear that noise. If you want a Hector, our Hector review still says WAIT. For a diesel seven-seater at this money, the Safari is the honest answer.
